The weather is finally, finally cooling.
For women who want to shake up their wardrobes this fall season, the key is understanding your personal style.
Fortunately, Volusia County has an array of locally owned clothing boutiques to help get you started. Here are some tips from three locally owned boutiques.
House of JYL
“When it comes to fashion, people shouldn’t overthink it,” said Jakara Lewis, owner of House of JYL at 807 Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. in Daytona Beach.
“They should always buy things that they like. A lot of people conform to social media. Most people copy what they see other people wear. Some don’t even know what their real style is.
“If you’re someone who’s versatile and edgy, be versatile and edgy. If you’re someone that’s more relaxed and you have a simple style, be simple. When people try to dress outside of their style it’s always a disaster.”
House of JYL carries women’s sizes from small to extra large.
“Most of the clothes that we carry are stretchy,” said Lewis. “I go more for comfort, I don’t really like to carry clothes that don’t have a stretch to them because they’re not flattering to my main group of shoppers.”
Lewis said staple pieces are essential.
“A nice pair of denim jeans would be a great staple piece,” she said. “With a nice pair of denim you can wear heels, sandals, sneakers, it just depends on your mood. I always recommend that people have a light, medium and dark wash. They mix differently with different colors and textures. So I always tell people to invest in a nice pair of jeans.”
Lewis said nice doesn’t always mean pricey.
“You can find good quality jeans for $50 or $60,” she said. “I don’t mind paying more money for certain items if I can keep it for a couple years. Some people don’t want to make the investment but that’s what style is.”
Lewis said it’s also a good idea to keep neutral colors in the mix.
“Neutral colors are easy to mix in and can take your outfit a long way,” she said.
